Why Mercy?
MercyMed believes we are called to show mercy to our neighbors. For us, that means providing quality, affordable primary healthcare.
MercyMed uses this passage from scripture to set a standard for showing mercy to others:
“Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind and your neighbor as yourself.”
“And who is my neighbor?”
“A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion. He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him. And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, ‘Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.’ Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?”
“The one who showed him mercy.” And Jesus said to him, “You go, and do likewise.”
(Luke 10:25-37)
MercyMed’s goal is to GO and DO likewise— show mercy.
Philosophy of Ministry
- All our actions will be guided by the love of Christ – knowing that, “If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.” (I Corinthians 13:3)
- All our actions will be in response to the work of Christ — knowing that, “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.” (I Pet 2:24)
- All our actions will be bound in prayer – knowing that we have a Father in heaven who hears our prayers and that Jesus said, “You have not because you have asked not.” (James 3:4)
- All our actions will be done in humility – knowing that James wrote, “Humble yourself before the Lord, and he will lift you up.” (James 4:10)
- All our actions will be performed as a servant – knowing that Jesus “did not come to be served, but to serve,” (Matthew 20:28) and knowing that when “Jesus showed them the full extent of his love,” (John 13:1) he took off his outer garment, wrapped a towel around him, and washed his disciples feet.
- All our actions will be done from a heart that has been in solitude with Christ – knowing that Jesus Himself would often get up in the morning “while it was still dark” (Mark 1:35) to be with His Heavenly Father.
- All our actions will be done as if doing them to Jesus Himself – knowing that “whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.” (Matthew 25:40)
- All our actions will be done to the glory of God, that He alone will be praised – knowing that Scripture says, “whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” (I Corinthians 10:31)
